YOU report that Kate Forbes “breaks silence”. Well, her silence didn’t last long. She claims she is thinking about what is best for “the party, the country, and my family”. Neither the party nor the country needs a “social conservative” (I find her conservative in her values and beliefs and, like all too many politicians, dishonest with it).

I am devastated to see Humza Yousaf step down. He was that very rare thing – a really decent politician who acted on principle, genuinely connected to people, a worthy successor to Sturgeon, actually trying to improve the country.

Forbes on the other hand is a politician in the mould of Salmond and Blair – wants power, will say anything to get and can’t be trusted. She is the last person the SNP and Scotland need. I’m sure if she actually thought about what was best for her family she’d not put herself forward – but I reckon the only thing she is really thinking about is whether she could win.

After all, losing a leadership election twice is something even Liz Truss didn’t manage.
