TRIBUTES have been paid to long serving Rosyth councillor Margaret Logan who has died at the age of 91.

She represented her home home town on Dunfermline District Council from 1984 to 1996 and then on Fife Council from 1995 to 2003.

Her late husband Charlie also represented Rosyth on Fife Regional Council.

Margaret was instrumental in getting the Superfast Euro ferry link to Zeebrugge from the town's port and she made sure she was on the first voyage leaving West Fife.

A committed Labour member and trade unionist, Margaret continued to be an active campaigner well into her retirement.

She worked tirelessly to build the Dunfermline and District Credit Union and, working with Wilma Mentiplay and Alice Callaghan, she ran the disco and community support club in Abbeyview for children and remained involved in a host of community groups and community activity well into her later years.

Margaret was active in the TGWU as convener at Phillips and as it merged into Amicis and then Unite, she remained an activist in the retired members wing of the union.

Paying tribute to his Labour colleague, Fife MSP Alex Rowley said: "Margaret never sought recognition or made a fuss, she just helped people throughout her life and hers was truly a life dedicated to serving others.

"A life truly well lived in the service of others and that is how I will remember this amazing lady."

Rosyth councillor Andrew Verrecchia was saddened by Margaret's death.

"She served her local community with distinction" he said. "A committed Labour member, Margaret continued to be an active member and campaigner well into her retirement.

"She will be missed by all who knew her."

The funeral details are not yet known.
