PUPILS across East Lothian have said emotional goodbyes to their teachers and peers as their school careers have come to an end.
While many senior pupils at secondary schools started study leave ahead of the upcoming exams, others had their final day at school at the end of last week.
Pupils at Dunbar Grammar School enjoyed a leavers' ceremony with music from some pupils and speeches from others before pupils (and staff) enjoyed some fun on a bouncy castle.
Friday also marked the final day for deputy headteacher Duncan McBride as he takes up a post at the University of Edinburgh.
Claire Slowther, headteacher at DGS, said: "The DGS S6 had a lovely final day on Friday. They celebrated with their families in a formal leavers ceremony where all students crossed the stage as their guidance teacher read out their leaving destination.
"We were entertained by a range of musical performances and some emotional photo montages of the year group from P7 to S6. After a reception for families, the S6s headed to the atrium for some bouncy fun! They were given their yearbooks and hoodies before having time to have fun with their friends on the bouncy fun run.
"It was such a pleasure to be able to celebrate with them. They have been a fabulous year group and are a very special one for me personally.
"They were my first S1 cohort as headteacher and will be my last DGS S6. They brought positivity, fun and determination to all they did as a year group. The staff at DGS wish them all the best and know that the future looks very bright for them!"
On the departure of Mr McBride she added: "He has been an incredible asset to DGS for the past four years and is loved by students and staff. We will miss him."
Meanwhile, pupils at Preston Lodge High School enjoyed a leavers' ceremony with some memorable music performances.
Gavin Clark, headteacher at the school, said: "We said fond farewells to our lovely S6 students and enjoyed a great last day with an amazing group of students.
"They are now ready to join the big wide world, and we wish them best wishes in their next steps.
"Exam season is upon us, and we wish all our senior students the very best, too, over the next six weeks.
"So much work has been done, and although there is always anxiety around exams we are confident things will go well.
"Take care, look after yourself, work hard and remember those booster sessions!"
S6 pupils at Ross High School in Tranent took some photos in their leavers' hoodies before enjoying an outdoor game of laser tag.
Paul Reynolds, Ross High headteacher, said: "I’d like to wish the Ross High Class of 2024 all the very best in the next stage of their lives.
"They have been a fabulous year group and we finished up the term in a lovely way with year group pictures of them in their new leavers’ hoodies and a day at laser tag.
"Good luck to all in the upcoming SQA exams."
Pupils at Knox Academy in Haddington also got in on the action, celebrating their final day with cake and celebrations in the PE hall.
Susan Cook, Knox Academy headteacher, added: "A great morning was enjoyed celebrating with our S6 leavers.
"Following a formal ceremony we had fun in PE playing games and having a ceilidh. All staff and pupils then gathered for a farewell buffet.
"Good luck with your exams and all the very best for the future."
Leavers at North Berwick High School and Musselburgh Grammar School also said their goodbyes in what was an emotional time for all.
