RECENT fly tipping near Blairhall has been branded a "blatant disregard for the law" by Fife Council.

A total of 47 tyres were dumped and discovered on the back road between Clinkum Bank and Shiresmill by Safer Communities Fife officers.

Safer Communities Service manager Tricia Spacey said: "We're aware that a large quantity of tyres were dumped on the back road between Clinkum Bank and Shiresmill. We've now made arrangements for these to be removed.

"There's no excuse for fly-tipping, which is a blatant disregard of the law and of our outdoor environment.

"No one wants to see rubbish dumped. It has a direct impact on the condition of our roads, parks, wildlife and communities."

Fly-tipping carries a fine of £200 but those caught carrying out a more serious offence could face being reported to the prosecutor fiscal and face imprisonment and fines of up to £40,000.

With plans in place to dispose of the tyres properly, Fife Council is urging people to continue to report illegal fly-tipping.

Ms Spacey added: "We would encourage anyone witnessing incidences of illegal dumping to report it immediately, with as much information as possible.

"We're grateful to the people of Fife for reporting fly-tipping and urge them to keep doing so using our online form at www.fife.gov.uk/flytipping"
