A 58-year-old man caused a drunken disturbance on a bus, swearing at young children and then attacking a teenager.

As a result, James Reid, of Fairy Fa’ Crescent, Crossgates, was in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing.

He admitted that on April 15 last year at Pittsburgh Road, Dunfermline, he acted in an aggressive manner, shouted, swore, made threats of violence and challenged people to fight.

He also assaulted a 17-year-old youth by seizing him by the clothing.

Depute fiscal Catherine Stevenson said that at around 4pm Reid was on the bus from Dunfermline to Ballingry when the incident occurred.

There were young children sitting near him and after initially talking to them, Reid started shouting and swearing at them, telling them to shut up. Two passengers told Reid to be quiet and he reacted by assaulting one of them, a 17-year-old youth.

The driver stopped the bus and the passengers got off, with Reid continuing with his loutish behaviour. He was shouting, swearing and challenging people to fight for around the next ten minutes. He only left when he heard the police were on their way.

The court was told Reid was embarrassed and disgusted with himself. He had been so drunk that he was not allowed into a pub and so went for the bus home.

Sheriff Krista Johnston fined Reid £340.
