VANDALS left a "terrible mess" after setting wheelie bins on fire and leaving litter strewn across an area of Lochgelly Public Park at the weekend.
Firefighters were called to the park on Saturday night to deal with the incident just before 7.30pm.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.24pm on Friday, March 15 to reports of a fire involving three wheelie bins at woods adjacent to Melville Street, Lochgelly.
“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance to the scene where the crews extinguished the fire.
"There were no casualties and crews left the scene at 7.46pm after ensuring the area was safe."
Grass in the area has also been damaged from motorbikes or quad bikes.
Local councillor, Mary Bain Lockart, said she was "dreadfully disappointed" when she saw the aftermath of the vandalism.
"It was a terrible mess," she said. "I know that members of the community were out heroically cleaning it.
"It is a long standing problem. I am certain that as a group of councillors, the area committee will be looking at in conjunction with the community education team and the police."
Fife Council's safer communities manager, Dawn Jamieson, also condemned the behaviour.
"Vandalism and anti-social behaviour of any kind is unacceptable and a blight on our communities," she said. "I would encourage anyone with concerns about this kind of behaviour to report it to Police Scotland via 101."
