THE new destination playpark at Lochore Meadows Country Park is "still on schedule" to open in the Spring.

And there's no need for locals to get in a 'lava' as the popular volcano feature is here to stay!

An update on Facebook said: "The installation phase is coming to an end this week and the surfacing aspect will be completed over the coming weeks followed by the planting of the 'natural play' area.

"We are all excited to see it open soon."

Another post on the Lochore Meadows Country Park page confirmed: "Because we've had so many queries and questions about the 'volcano' during the construction of the new playpark we thought it needed its own post and update as it's so popular and loved by so many people!

"We can assure you the volcano is staying and will be an integral part of the new playpark, it will get a bit of TLC along with some other aspects of the old playpark so it sits proud alongside the new play equipment!"

There's other work ongoing, including an upgrade at the motorhome stopover in the park, with a new waste disposal facility in place and a barrier entry system to be installed this week.

Landscaping improvements will also make it a "much more enjoyable facility for visitors" when it opens on April 1.

In addition, a new employability programme for 16 to 19 year-olds has started at the outdoor education centre.

The focus is on biodiversity, conservation and improvements to park signage.

The young people will be working with various partners including Rural Skills Scotland and Fife Coast & Countryside Trust, gaining valuable skills and qualifications to help them into paid employment.

Over the last week they have taken part in researching biodiversity in the park and also planting trees as part of erosion protection measures along the north shore.

The beach area is next for improvement works while various paths will be resurfaced.
