THERE'S a change on the buses as the A909 bridge between Cowdenbeath and Mossmorran is closed for five days.

Bay Travel said that service 18 will divert via Broad Street, Crossgates and Mossgreen towards Leven and the reverse heading towards Kelty.

The company added: "Service 17B will not be able to serve Mossgreen and passengers can use the number 18 as an alternative.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Work began this morning - a change from the original start time of this evening - and follows resurfacing work that was carried out by Fife Council in November.

Now it's Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, who are on site to replace the expansion joints on the bridge, which carries traffic over the A92.

It will be closed until Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson for Amey said: "The installation of new bridge expansion joints is required to ensure the integrity of the structure and help maintain the condition of the new road surface.

"To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists the essential maintenance will be undertaken using a full road closure, both on the structure and extending approximately 20 metres in either direction of the structure.

"During the works the right turn lane on both the eastbound and westbound off-slips from the A92 to the bridge will also be closed.

"Traffic will be diverted along the A92 to the next junction - eastbound to Lochgelly, westbound to Crossgates - where traffic can turn and return back along the A92."

He added: "Due to the works nature and complexity, as well as safety purposes, the bridge will be closed to pedestrians, cyclists and emergency services for the whole duration.

"All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable."
