A SPECIAL tribute has been unveiled in Lochgelly to remember entertainer Bert Allan who died last year.

Torleys Bar and Restaurant hosted special commemorative show on Sunday when the name of the venue's function suite was officially confirmed as the Bert Allan Function Suite.

Bert's cousin, fellow comedian Bobby Dee, had come up with the idea after deciding there should be a lasting memorial in the town.

Central Fife Times:

"I wanted to do something special," he explained. "I approached Torleys and said what about rather than a one off situation, what we do is we will name the function suite after him and they were totally delighted with that.

"I spoke to Bert's wife and their sons and they were delighted that it was going to happen. They were not wanting Bert to be forgotten."

Posting on Facebook, the Torleys team said they were delighted to honour Bert's name.

"Without hesitation we agreed to providing this lasting tribute," they said. "From now on, all our functions will be held in 'The Bert Allan Function Suite.

"Bert was a massive help to us at Torleys back in the early days, doing shows but more importantly introducing us to a fantastic agent and many special acts. If it wasn't for Bert we wouldn’t have been able to bring acts like the legendary Lena Martell to Torleys.

"We are absolutely honoured to be able to provide this lasting memory of such a great man."

Sunday's sell out tribute show saw a string of local acts, led by Bobby, take to the stage and perform.

Bert, known as the ‘Laird of Steelend’ to many when he took to the stage, spent four decades as a full-time entertainer, and was a popular figure all over the UK and abroad.

He loved helping local good causes and and his work saw him awarded the British Empire Medal in 2013. He was chosen as Lochgelly’s Citizen of the Year in 2014.
