A CARDENDEN mum has praised the workers of a Dunfermline McDonald's for going above and beyond to help her while her daughter suffered through a seizure.

Four-year-old Amelia was in the restaurant within the Asda store with her mum, Faith Aldous, grabbing lunch after a hospital appointment when she suddenly cried out in pain before dropping to the ground and seizing.

Workers from the Halbeath store rushed to help the single mum and stayed with her throughout the whole ordeal.

Faith told the Press: "We woke up in the morning and she had really swollen tonsils and she was burning hot so I phoned out of hours and took her in at 1 o'clock in Dunfermline.

"They said she had tonsilitis and prescribed her penicillin. Because she hadn't eaten anything we went to Asda to get the prescription and they said it was going to be an hour's wait so I thought I would take her to a McDonald's to see if she would eat anything.

"She was fine, she was watching the phone and eating half a nugget and then she screamed that she had head pain. She stood up and started crying, this really high-pitched cry, saying her head was sore.

"Then she just went floppy and fell to the floor."

Faith managed to catch her daughter and Amelia laid on the ground while her head stiffened and her eyes rolled back in her head.

The staff came over straight away to help, and didn't leave their side until an ambulance arrived an hour later.

Workers brought a jacket to cover Amelia while she lay on the floor, phoned an ambulance, kept the phone lines clear and called for updates, sorted out Faith's parking so she wouldn't receive a ticket for an extended stay, gave her a phone charger, made sure the pair were left alone by the public and even went and collected Amelia's prescription for her.

One former member of staff even bought the four-year-old a toy to go along with the sweeties that the current staff pitched in for.

Faith continued: "The staff came over straight away, and they were so good. They were amazing with her, and amazing with me as well. If they weren’t there I would have been a total mess.

"It means so much to us. I’m a single mum and we’re still waiting on answers as to why Amelia is having these episodes.

"I knew she was unwell but I did not expect that to happen so to have all of that support around me, and even on Facebook for everybody to be messaging me, it’s unreal, it’s just so overwhelming."

While Amelia has had two episodes before, last summer, Faith is still waiting on answers and tests to find out why this is happening to her little girl.

"I kind of knew what it was," she said, "I knew what was happening, so I just tried to stay calm because I didn't want to show that I was upset and stressed in front of her."

While Faith knew what was happening, it was still an extremely upsetting situation and the staff ensured that she didn't have to go through this alone.

Adam Buchanan-Smith, McDonald’s franchisee, said: “The safety of our customers is our utmost priority, and I’m really proud of the action taken by the restaurant team to help support and reassure this young customer and her family during this situation.

"We all wish her a swift recovery.”

Faith added: "They’re trained to do it, and I get that it's their job, but when you're in that situation, you're just so grateful that they’re there to help you."
