A CHANGE of plans will see a four-bedroom house built on a vacant plot at the back of Cowdenbeath High Street.

Jim Watson had initially wanted to build six storage units on the site but withdrew the application earlier this year.

A fresh bid for a one-and-a-half storey house, on disused land at the back of 248 High Street, has now been approved by Fife Council.

The "backland development" proposals also include a triple garage, an outbuilding for a home office and associated development.

A council report said the site, around 870 square metres in size, was previously used as a plumber's premises and the buildings have since been demolished.

To the west of the plot is the Fife Circle railway line and the report noted: "While the council's environmental health (public protection) team had expressed concern future occupants would be disturbed by noise associated with passing trains, given the small scale nature of that development, which would see the reuse of a vacant building within an existing urban centre, it was considered that the proposal could be accepted in that instance."

It said the site was also within a "development high risk area" for Coal Authority consultation purposes.

However, the authority raised no objection "subject to a standard type condition".
