TWO people have been arrested in connection with a large fire at a block of flats in Lochgelly.

Police have confirmed a man, 33, and a woman, 30, were arrested today (Tuesday) while enquiries continue into the blaze at a block of flats in Francis Street on Monday evening.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Two people have been arrested in connection with a fire in Francis Street, Lochgelly in Fife on Monday, 23 October, 2023.

"One man, aged 33 and one woman, aged 30, were arrested by officers today.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

A total of 12 properties were evacuated when the devastating blaze took hold at the block of flats shortly after 7pm.

Seven fire appliances and two specialist appliances attended at the scene as flames scorched the building.

No-one was injured during the incident, but a rest centre was temporarily set-up at Lochgelly Town Hall for those affected.
