TWO men are set to appear in court after police carried out a search for a man suspected to be carrying a gun in Cowdenbeath.

The pair were arrested and charged in connection with the incident, with a single imitation firearm seized.

Officers were called to the Station Road area of the town at around 4.15pm on Monday.

Witnesses reported armed units at Cowdenbeath Public Park as well as eight police vehicles.

A helicopter was also circling the area.

Police Scotland said that the men were expected to appear at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

A spokesperson said: "Around 4.15pm officers received a report of a man in a possession of a suspected firearm in the Station Road area of Cowdenbeath.

“Officers attended and two men were traced a short time later.

"They were subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

"A single imitation firearm was seized and made safe.

"No firearm was discharged and no one was injured. There was no threat to the wider public.

“The pair are expected to appear at Dunfermline Court on Tuesday, August 15."
