A WOMAN has died after a crash involving a lorry and a car near Crossgates.

The 58-year-old was the driver of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene on the B981.

The incident happened at around 12.30pm today (Monday) and involved a red and white Scania articulated lorry and a white Vauxhall Astra car.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 12.30pm on Monday, 14 August, to a report of a crash involving a lorry and a car on the B981 outside Crossgates, Fife.

“Emergency services attended and a 58-year-old woman, the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The road is currently closed and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

The force has confirmed that no-one else was injured in the crash.

Officers are appealing for information as an investigation to establish the full circumstances is carried out.

Sergeant Colin Morrison said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died and an investigation is being carried out to establish the full circumstances.

“We are appealing to anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

"In particular, if you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our enquiries then make contact with us."

Anyone who can assist is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1580 of Monday, August 14, 2023.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was called to assist at the collision and mobilised three appliances as well as specialist resources.

A spokesperson said: “We were called to assist emergency service partners at a road traffic collision on the B981, near Crossgates at 12.37pm on Monday, 14 August.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene."
