STAFF as part of a 'phenomenal little team' have been 'split apart' as Iceland in Cowdenbeath closed its doors for one last time.

The Times had previously told you that the High Street branch - which has served the community for 35 years - was to shut this month.

And it did so on Saturday evening, resulting in five staff's redeployment and five redundancies.

Taking to social media to comment on Iceland's closure, store workers said: "So tonight Team Cowden closed the door for the final time.

"The store was the second Iceland to open in Scotland and has been on Cowdenbeath High Street for 35 years!

"Our longest-serving member of the team, Carole Aitken, has been with Iceland a total of 45 years!

"And our Gordon has been here for the full 35!

"Collectively there is 137 years Iceland experience in this store.

"The love pouring in from the customers this week has been both overwhelming and humbling.

"Five redeployments and five redundancies sees this phenomenal little team split apart.

"We cannot thank our customers enough for your years of loyal business, your kindness, and well wishes in the end and to those who contributed to our kitty for our night out.

"We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

"We hope some of you will visit us in Dunfermline."

The Dunfermline branch is located on Halbeath Road, open from 9am Monday to Sunday, with closing times ranging from 6pm to 8pm.

An Iceland spokesperson had previously confirmed to the Times that Iceland Cowdenbeath would close on Saturday, August 12.

They said: "The Cowdenbeath store closes on August 12.

"Across Iceland and The Food Warehouse we have a portfolio of over UK 1,000 stores, and our retail estate has grown by nearly 200 stores over the last ten years.

"We typically open more than 20 new stores each year, creating many new jobs and contributing to the growth of local economies.

"At the same time, we continually review the retail experience offered to our customers and have always made a small number of store closures every year, as local shopping patterns change and shop leases expire.

"The business is currently trading very strongly, achieving record market shares.

"Customers can find their closest Iceland and The Food Warehouse stores here.”
