A RUNDOWN building in Lochgelly that's "being broken into and vandalised on a regular basis" is to be demolished.

David Farrell has been given the go-ahead by Fife Council to knock down the property at 70 Launcherhead Road as part of new development proposals.

The second part of his plans, which is still to be determined by the local authority, is an application to build two new, three-bedroom houses on the cleared site.

The plot is just over 520 square metres in size.

Mr Farrell, of South Street in Lochgelly, submitted an application to demolish the "dilapidated building" and a certificate of lawfulness was approved by the council last week.

On the forms his planning agent added: "The existing building is being broken into and vandalised on a regular basis.

"The client / developer wishes to demolish this ASAP."

A report by the council's planning team noted that the building was not listed nor in a conservation area and "recommended that the application be approved unconditionally".
