A 59-YEAR-OLD Lochgelly man was caught drink-driving as he drove to a shop to buy ice cream.

Adam Kowalski, of Stephen Place, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court accompanied by a translator.

He admitted that on June 7,in Hugh Place, Lochgelly, he drove having consumed excess alcohol. His reading was 29 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Eve McKaig said at 7.05pm Kowalski’s car was stopped by police and officers could smell alcohol from his breath.

He was arrested and taken to Dunfermline police station.

Defence solicitor Elaine Buist said her client had drunk two whisky and cokes before driving to buy ice cream but was stopped on the way.

Sheriff Susan Duff fined Kowalski £320 and banned him from driving for 12 months.
