ONE of the most popular events on the Benarty calendar is just a week away.

After another fantastic year of fundraising and hard work, Benarty Events Group (BEG) are getting ready for two of their biggest events of the year.

It starts with the Pipe Band and Highland Dancing competition at Lochore Meadows next Saturday, June 17.

The contest already as well over twenty bands with some of Scotland's best entering.

The Highland Dancing competition are also gearing for a big entry.

Because of the high demand, the event starts at the earlier time of 10am rather than Noon.

Eddie Easson, BEG chairman, commented: "There will be over 32 performances at the Pipe Band competition hence the early start.

"We anticipate bands arriving around 9am and we will be ready for them."

The set-up will start on the Friday evening with the big marquee to be erected and the field to be arranged, with hopes that there will be "very little to do" on Saturday morning.

The group hope that they will have volunteers to assist with the field arrangement.

Anyone who would like to assist the group with the preparations can do so by meeting at around 5pm on Friday at the events field at Lochore Meadows.

Eddie continued: "As always the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) are fantastic with the organising of the competition and everything goes like clockwork. With all timings spot on to the minute.

"The same can be said about the Highland Dancing competition with Sarah Hendry and her team doing a fantastic job.

“We look forward to a great day and it is great to meet up with old faces at both competitions.

"We were novices when we first started organising these events but with great guidance from Gary Mair and Paul McAndrew at the RSPBA and Sarah we are improving every year."
