SIR Bob Geldof is making his way to the Meedies with The Boomtown Rats this summer to headline Rockore.

The festival’s major announcement was made tonight (Tuesday) and the Times understands that an early sell-out is anticipated.

Ahead of the festival, Bob Geldof said: “Long before England copped on to this band, the boys and girls of Scotland kept us going until we’d gone all the way.

"We’re looking forward to bringing a little slice of Boomtown to the burgers of Fife. See you in August…”

The Boomtown Rats had two UK number one singles with Rat Trap and I Don’t Like Mondays in the late ‘70s, and the Lochore Meadows crowd can expect both to be played live on Saturday, August 19.

Organised by Benarty Events Group (BEG) in association with Rubber Stamp Promotions, the all-day festival had Wet Wet Wet topping the bill in front of 4,000 music fans on its return last year.

A spokesperson for BEG told the Times this week that they were delighted to land The Boomtown Rats after months of talks.

“I don’t think anyone will have expected this,” they said.

“Who would have thought that Sir Bob Geldof would be coming to the Benarty area and to the Meedies? He’s an iconic name.

“We’re all really excited as it’s such a great event for Benarty and the community as a whole.

“Ticket sales are well ahead of where they should be for this time of year, and we’re confident that an early sell-out will happen.

“The announcement of The Boomtown Rats could be what does it.”

Tickets for Rockore cost £25 and these can be purchased from Benarty Fruits, Benarty Community Shop and online via Skiddle (plus booking fee).
