A POLICE officer was injured and taken to hospital after an incident on the A92 near Lochgelly.

The route was closed westbound for more than three hours after a silver Mercedes Vito collided with a police vehicle on Sunday evening.

A 37-year-old man has been charged with alleged road traffic offences and has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

The police car had been parked to shield another vehicle which had broken down on the road.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.10 pm on Sunday, 9 April 2023, a silver Mercedes Vito collided with a police vehicle westbound on the A92, Lochgelly. The police car had been parked to shield another vehicle that had broken down on the road.

"A male police officer was injured following the incident and was taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for treatment. He has since been discharged.

"A 37-year-old man has been charged with alleged road traffic offences and is the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.

"The A92 westbound at Lochgelly was closed for approximately three and a half hours."
