SUNFLOWER Family Nurture Centre and Mossview Care Home in Lochgelly are celebrating having reached the finals of the Generations Working Together Excellence Awards.

For many years children from Sunflower have visited Mossview to share their stories and get involved in all the experiences on offer.

The children and residents have recently been involved in fitness classes, arts and crafts activities, and dancing with the residents to the live bands performing each week.

Firm friendships have been built between the Mossview residents and the Sunflower children, with a common phrase in nursery being: ‘When are we going up to see our friends again?’'.

Morag Steele, headteacher at Sunflower, said: "Our children visit Mossview a few times a week.

"The project has been ongoing over a number of years.

"They always have lots of fun and come back talking about all the experiences they have been involved in.

"The children have developed so many skills as a result of being involved with Mossview.

"It is wonderful to see them growing in confidence and building solid friendships with the residents."

It is not only the children who are finding the experiences to be positive, Sue Tawse, Activities Coordinator at Mossview, says.

"Our residents are always so excited to see the children, they wait at the windows for them to arrive," she commented.

"The visits encourage them to take part and try new activities that they wouldn’t normally have done.

"Spending time with the children from the nursery has become such an important part of their day.

"You can just see the enjoyment on their faces, it really lifts their spirits, even after the visits are over and the children make their way back to the nursery until the next time."

Ellenor, aged 4, added: "The only not so good bit is we don’t get to stay there all the time, we take turns. We love it."

The awards provide an opportunity for individuals and groups to celebrate their learning and success in building relationships between younger and older generations.

The awards take place on March 8 in Glasgow.
