POLICE had to be called to deal with a disturbance on a bus in Cowdenbeath.

Video footage of the incident was shared on social media which saw officers having to board the Stagecoach bus to deal with a man who appeared to be directing abuse towards other passengers.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.30pm on Wednesday, 22 February, 2023, police were called to a report of a disturbance on a bus in the Broad Street area of Cowdenbeath.

"Officers attended and suitable advice was provided to the parties involved.”

A spokesperson for Stagecoach East Scotland said abusive or threatening behaviour would not be tolerated on their services.

"We can confirm an incident occurred on board one of our vehicles in Cowdenbeath earlier this week," said the spokesperson.

"Our driver reacted swiftly and professionally when the behaviour of a passenger was brought to his attention, and the police were called to assist in the removal of the passenger from the vehicle.

"We absolutely do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour on board our services, and will be assisting in the subsequent investigation.

"The safety of our passengers, staff and the public is our highest priority, and our thoughts are with the passengers and driver who were affected by this incident."
