AFTER two weeks out of action Cowdenbeath will resume their Lowland League challenge on Saturday when they take on Edinburgh University at Peffermill.

The hosts are second bottom with just eight points from 26 games and Blue Brazil manager Maurice Ross will believe it's a great chance to chalk up an away win and add to the three points they gained against another student side, Stirling Uni, in the last league outing.

Cowden have 13 games to play and he's demanding a strong finish to the campaign.

Ross said: "We have played really well in our last two games, against Tranent and Stirling University, and collected four points and we simply have to look to keep that going.

“To climb the table we need to get a run of victories and if we can play with the same commitment and quality that we produced against two of the top teams in the table, we can win this one on Saturday.

“The players kept errors to a minimum in these games and were rewarded, and hopefully we can produce the same this weekend.”

Cowdenbeath have 22 points from 23 games and a repeat of the 3-0 home win in September over the Edinburgh students would be ideal.

They'll have midfield dynamo, Andy Black, back in the squad for this one as he's now free from suspension.

And there's competition for places Lucas Berry, Jack Garrad, Stuart Love and David Struthers all looking for a starting jersey in the team’s engine room.

One player who will not feature is central defender Daniel Martins, who left on Friday to join East of Scotland Premier League side, Camelon.

Cowdenbeath's football operations co-ordinator, Colin Nelson, said: "I really wish to put on record my thanks to Daniel for all his hard work, and also the professionalism he has shown.

“He's a great lad and very well-liked by staff and the squad. He goes with all our best wishes and I'm positive he will be a big success at Camelon."

With Harry Osborne leaving earlier in January, and Martins now departing, it frees up some space for manager Ross to strengthen his squad for the run in, and he is on the look-out for the right players who can help the Blues achieve their aim of moving up the table.

With a blank Saturday on the fixture calendar last weekend, Cowden took the opportunity to play a friendly match with Scoutable United, at Springburn Park in Glasgow.

The Blues ended up winning 5-1 with goals from Sam Newman, Aiden Gilmartin, Ewan Thomson and two free-kick specials from Scott Sinclair.
