COWDENBEATH have a tough shift this Saturday when they take on current Lowland League leaders East Kilbride at the K Park.

EK dropped points last weekend when they drew at Caledonian Braves, but they are a formidable side on their own pitch.

However, Cowden played well in beating East Stirlingshire 5-0 - ahead of the 1-0 midweek loss to Spartans -, and the confidence levels of the young players have been given a huge lift by the work of experienced players Iain Davidson, Stuart Love and Carlos Lyon.

Assistant boss, Colin Jack, commented after Saturday’s win: “Having these three guys up the middle of the line-up has helped our younger lads.

“Iain uses the ball well from the back and also is always encouraging them, while Stuart takes up good positions in midfield and creates positive situations from making quality passes.

“In attack Carlos is hard to knock off the ball and has a lot of strength, and poses real problems for opposition sides.

“Hopefully all three of them will be in action on Saturday and will give us the chance to give East Kilbride a tough time.”

Jack was very pleased to see teenager Ewan Thomson score a double against ‘Shire.

He said: “Although only 17, Ewan has bags of skill and is not afraid to have a go at goal and was involved in most of our goals.

“When he plays like he did on Saturday he poses a lot of issues for our opponents and can create and score goals.”
