A BIGOTED neighbour-from-hell who shouted sectarian abuse at a couple in their home and also at their young grandchildren, aged just 10 and 12, has been sentenced.

Elspeth Grieve blasted out offensive sectarian music for seven hours from morning to afternoon in her garden, accompanied by loud-mouth abuse.

Repeat offender 56-year-old Grieve, of Westwood Crescent, Ballingry, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing.

She was ordered to do unpaid work and pay compensation to the couple.

Sheriff Susan Duff told Grieve her behaviour was “absolutely disgraceful” and that “any decent person would be appalled by it”.

She added that it was “quite remarkable” that the police had only been contacted after “seven hours of blaring sectarian music and you shouting sectarian abuse”.

The sheriff said that Grieve’s “anti-Catholic tirade” then continued in a police vehicle when she started verbally-abusing the officers.

Grieve admitted previously that on June 4, at her home and within a police vehicle, and at Dunfermline police station, she shouted, swore, made offensive and derogatory comments towards a couple, their grandchildren and police officers.

Depute fiscal Lauren Pennycook said that Grieve had gone into her back garden and started playing the music at 9.30am and this had gone until 4.30pm.

The music was sectarian and some of it related to Rangers football club, added the depute. It was accompanied by Grieve shouting abuse at a couple who live nearby.

She called the man a “Fenian b******” and shouted comments about the Pope and Bobby Sands.

When the couple’s grandchildren arrived, she started shouting at them, saying they were “like the grandad” and that they were “wee Fenian b******”.

The police were called and Grieve aimed her abuse at them.

She told them: “I’ve been done with this before. I got a fine, do you think I give a f***.”

Defence solicitor Aime Allan said: “She’s lost her employment as a result of this. Upon reflection, she knows her behaviour was wholly unacceptable.”

Sheriff Duff imposed a community payback order with 200 hours of unpaid work and she must also pay £400 compensation to the neighbours.

In 2018, Grieve was fined in the same court over bigoted drunken rants on Facebook. She sent offensive and sectarian messages to a local man.
