THERE was a double celebration at Craigie House in Crossgates with a landmark birthday and a wedding anniversary for residents.

Dorothy McRay blew out the candles on her cake after turning 101 while David and Anne Stephen have been happily married for 55 years.

Iwona Sobczak, care manager at the home, said: "Overall Dorothy has witnessed so many changes in day-to-day life.

"When we ask her what is the recipe for a long life she only smiles and says 'Family, love and happiness'."

David and Anne married in 1967 and marked their wedding anniversary with a little celebration at Craigie House.

Anne is now a resident in the care home and David visits every day.

Iwona added: "They enjoy time together in the garden and still have lots to chat about.

"It just shows that after all those years love never dies, no matter what life brings you."
