A 'PRICELESS' piece of local golf history is back where it belongs - with a little help from the Times.

We joined forces with Brian Robinson from Auchterderran Golf Club to lead an appeal to locate an historic trophy.

The Memorial Shield is one of the club's most precious and historic prizes, but it had not been seen for a number of years.

That was until last week, when the club were contacted out of the blue.

Brian explained: "The club got a call and the shield has now been returned.

"It had been in someone's loft. For how long, we don't know. But, the most important thing is that the shield is back to where it should be.

"The club is delighted to have it back.

"I'd like to personally thank the Times for putting this in the paper and on the website as well and helping us. It was only a few weeks after I contacted you that it was returned, so if the Times had anything to do with this, I'd like to say thanks."

The Times had previously told you that the shield was an irreplaceable treasure at the club, with a proud history.

"It needs a bit of work done to it, but it will be refurbished by Steven Black, of Secure Fred Scotland Ltd," Brian added.

"I was shocked to see it back, actually. I thought I had won it in the 1980's, but it turns out I was wrong and it was in fact in 1995.

"Because of its history, and what it means to the club, I really am so happy that it has been returned."

In addition to the Memorial Shield, handwritten club minutes were also reported missing from the clubhouse and remain unaccounted for.

Anyone with any information relating to the club minutes, but would prefer not to speak/contact the club directly, they can instead contact the Times via email.

You can state where it/they are located, and your name will be withheld when the Times contacts the golf club.
