A "FORGOTTEN" playpark in Dunfermline that's become overgrown with weeds and daubed with graffiti will be cleared up "as a priority".

Fife Council have promised to tidy up the facilities at the western edge of the city's Public Park, near Park Avenue, after a member of the public complained it had been neglected.

However, it won't be maintained indefinitely and the playpark will be removed further down the line.

The mum, who didn't want to be named, said: "Since the new one opened, it's like this playpark has just been forgotten about.

"It's close to houses and easy to park but you wouldn't go there as it's just been neglected, and it's been like that for years.

"It's dirty, there are weeds growing everywhere, the paint is all faded, there's play equipment missing and graffiti too.

"Now we're a city, it's not a very good advert for the Public Park."

The council's community projects manager, Andy Maclellan, said teams would work to clear up the park "as a priority".

He added: "We invested £250,000 in a brand new playpark beside the bandstand in the public park which is very well-used.

"The long-term plan for this park once it has reached the end of its useful life is to turn the area into community green space."

A new playpark in the Public Park, east of the Louise Carnegie Bandstand, was completed in November 2018 and opened officially the following month.
