A LOCHGELLY barber is offering haircuts, hair pieces and a safe space for a chat.

Keiran McGarrity has recently taken over the scissors and trimmers at the former David Gray Salons on Main Street.

Next Gen Barbers is the new name on the door and Keiran, 34, told the Times that it was "too good an opportunity to turn down".

He stated: "When the owner at the time asked whether I would be interested, I just said, 'Yes, please!'

"I've been very busy so far, which is fantastic. I've barely been able to stop, think, and realise that it is my own now.

"I've loved every minute."

He is confident of ensuring that Next Gen Barbers is not simply a location for a cut or trim, but rather it becomes a destination that customers can enjoy and truly savour.

"I want it to be an experience," he said.

"Men now care a lot more about their hair and general appearance than they used to. They want to look their best. Gone are the days of being macho and being afraid to feel vulnerable and actually taking some self-care.

"It's not just women that want pampered; men do as well and why shouldn't we want that?

"I want this to be a calming, relaxing place and for anyone who comes in to leave feeling like they have just had a treat.

"They can sit and talk about their hair, what else is on their mind or any troubles they may be facing.

"I'd love for men to come in here and feel comfortable enough to have a chat about their mental health or just anything that is on their mind.

"Barbers are there to listen, and have a chat with you - and keep all your secrets, of course!

"With the world right now being so fast, and everyone rushing all the time, you are more than welcome to take your time in here and either leave your commitments at the door or vent and talk about life.

"I care deeply about people and I want you to leave feeling great about yourself."
