FIFE Council workers have been praised for springing into action after "more mindless vandalism" at a playpark in Cowdenbeath.

Local councillor Darren Watt had slammed the "destructive behaviour" that badly damaged the facilities on the park between Westburn Avenue and West Lane.

The rubber safety matting had been ripped and pulled up, there was broken glass and litter everywhere, but within 24 hours it had been fixed and the area cleaned up.

Cllr Watt had said: "I am extremely disappointed to learn of more mindless vandalism and destructive behaviour in our town, this time at a local playpark.

"This has been followed up with the relevant officers at Fife Council for immediate clean up.

"Hopefully this can be repaired quickly, especially at a time when more families and children are visiting playparks."

The following day he posted: "What a difference 24 hours make!

"Huge praise and thanks must go to Eric and Mo from Fife Council's playpark maintenance team for their rapid response and diligent repairs.

"I had the pleasure of speaking with both of them on site and I expressed my gratitude for their outstanding efforts.

"Further praise must also go to Dean who was assigned to litter pick the area first thing this morning and done a fantastic job. I was also fortunate enough to thank him in person."

He added: "If anyone has any information about those responsible, please report to police on 101 or contact me in confidence."
