BEST-SELLING author Ian Rankin made a return to Central Fife last week and visited his old high school.

Beath HS welcomed the award-winning writer from Cardenden back to familiar surroundings as he had a chat with staff.

Louise Hutchison, the head of English faculty, commented: "English faculty staff were delighted to spend an afternoon in Ian's company, discussing all things connected to creative writing.

"But where to start? Ian talked about starting points for stories and his numerous sources of inspiration, from personal reading to song lyrics, people-watching to social media.

"Staff benefitted greatly from hearing Ian reveal some of his vast accumulated knowledge and experience from almost four decades of writing.

"They intend to pass on some of Ian's inspiring creative writing approaches to Beath High School pupils.

"Who knows? Perhaps the next Ian Rankin is already in Beath!"
