A DROP-IN event will have Cowdenbeath residents talking as proposals to bring new life into the Town House are presented.

The Times previously told you an award-winning social enterprise providing cut-price food, as well as life-changing learning and development programmes, could soon call the building home.

In February, councillors on Cowdenbeath's area committee backed plans to regenerate and repurpose the prominent High Street venue by turning it into a Community Shop outlet following an approach by the Coalfield Regeneration Trust.

Local residents are now invited to the drop-in session at the Maxwell Centre this Saturday, May 7, between 11am and 3pm.

Those in attendance will find out more about the plans which would turn the building into a 'community asset', according to Fife Council.

Sarah Roxburgh, community manager for the Cowdenbeath area, said: "The proposals for the town house could be a great opportunity to bring this historic building back into public use and a benefit to many people in the community.

"We look forward to welcoming members of the community at the drop-in event to see these proposals, find out more about what will be on offer and tell us what they think."

The local authority states that the shop aspect of the building will, "offer discounted food and household products", and would also, "provide vital access to help feed families while making sure perfectly good products don’t go to waste".

Furthermore, a community hub would be set-up to provide, "life-changing training and personal development through the Success Plan, helping people to increase their confidence, build on strengths and overcome barriers in their lives," including health and wellbeing barriers, money issues and community leadership training.

A community kitchen will also serve as a, "welcoming space where people can enjoy good quality meals at low cost prices".

A range of events and family activities will also be arranged to encourage locals to step out of their homes, get strangers talking and bring local communities together.

Staff from Fife Council, The Coalfields Regeneration Trust and the Community Shop will be at the drop-in event on Saturday to discuss the proposals and answer any questions.
