PART of the M90 is set for closure next month due to surfacing works.

The work will take place southbound on the motorway near Kelty and will continue overnight.

The improvements are set to take place between junction 5 and junction 4 and will start at 7.30pm on Tuesday, May 10.

Traffic will be diverted after the junction 5 off-slip, the B9097 to Glenrothes, along the B996 to Station Road, Cocklaw Street, and towards the junction 4 southbound on-slip.

Subject to conditions, the section will reopen by 6.30am on Wednesday, May 11.

Wide loads will be permitted through the site under escort with a holding area in place before the diversion.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: "These works will improve and strengthen this section of the M90 near Kelty, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

"The traffic management programmed is essential for ensuring the safety of our roadworkers as well as motorists, however we’ve planned for the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption.

"We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these improvements on the M90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination."
