A SPECIAL football tournament for children in the Cardenden area is to be held in memory of community stalwart, Willie Duncan, who died last year.

The people behind the tournament is Alex Burns and his family, who all worked with Willie in helping organise many of the events that have been enjoyed by people in Cardenden over 30 years.

These include the John Thomson Tournament, Bowhill Village Fair, the Willie Johnston and Willie Maley football tournaments; and the Cardenden Fireworks and Bonfire Display.

The William Duncan Memorial football tournament will involve children from Cardenden, Denend, St Ninian’s and Kinglassie primary schools, and will be held at the John Thomson football facility in Wallsgreen Park, on Friday May 13, running from 9.30am to 12.

Every child who takes part will receive a special memento of the day, courtesy of the John Thomson Tournament Committee.

Said Alex Burns, who himself served with Willie on the organising committees of so many local events: “We felt it right to have a special competition involving the children of our four primary schools, to remember a man who helped organise so many events that the children of the villages enjoyed over many years.

“Willie was the original community stalwart and we are sure that this is a fitting event to remember him."
