DRIVERS near Ballingry had a mare of a time earlier today (Monday) as 30 escapee horses blocked the B9097.

Traffic was backed up as Fife police officers assisted in herding the animals back into a local field.

Commenting on the incident, officers said: "Not what Fife Road Policing normally deal with.

"Today we got these 30 escapees back into their field.

"Officers had a 'mare' of a time when they realised horses don't understand the Highway Code and now have 'horse' throats from shouting; all are now in a 'stable' condition.
