A FUNDRAISING event in memory of a late Crossgates army captain is set to return in person this weekend.

On Sunday, family, friends and supporters will have the chance to come together in Pittencrieff Park for the Captain David Seath Memorial Fund 5K, which will take place in a hybrid fashion.

Dunfermline-born Captain Seath passed away while running the 2016 London Marathon in aid of Help for Heroes, having suffered a cardiac arrest just three miles short of the finish.

Following his passing, his family set up a memorial fund in his honour, which has gone on to raise more than £330,000 to support armed forces personnel, veterans and their families through Help for Heroes.

One of its biggest fundraising events, since it was first held in 2017, has been a 5k run / walk in the Glen, held on the weekend closest to the date of the passing of Captain Seath, a commando who served in Afghanistan and the Middle East with the 19th Regiment Royal Artillery and the 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery respectively.

COVID-19 restrictions saw the events in 2020 and 2021 take place virtually and, this year, those wishing to take part can either do so in Pittencrieff Park, or by completing 5k over the course of the weekend virtually, by walking, running or cycling.

Gary Seath, Captain Seath's brother, said: "Our 5k event is about bringing the community together to commemorate the anniversary of David's tragic death, and to raise funds in his name to support veterans and their families across Scotland, through Help for Heroes.

"The event proves very poignant, however, it makes a huge difference to our family to see runners, walkers and cyclists of all ages and abilities come out to support our cause, and we warmly invite the community to join us in Pittencrieff Park on Sunday April 24 to become a force for good when it comes to rebuilding lives and providing pathways towards brighter futures across the country."

Anyone wishing to take part can do so by buying a ticket online, which costs £5, and they can be bought by visiting: www.captainseathmemorialfund.blog
