A LOCHGELLY woman has been banned again after being caught drink-driving for the second time in three years.

Mary-Ellen Murphy, 67, of Ballingry Road, was more than three times over the limit on this occasion.

On March 8, on the A92 at Lochgelly, she drove having consumed excess alcohol. Her reading was 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Michael Robertson said police had been called to a report of an accident on the A92 slip road at Lochgelly at 3.50pm.

Defence solicitor Alan Jackson said his client had worked as a nurse previously but had to retire early for medical reasons.

“On this day she had been drinking heavily some time before and was on her way back home when she came to the attention of the police,” he added.

“Her current position is she won’t drive again.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry imposed a three-year ban and a fine of £1,040.

In April 2019, Murphy was disqualified after being caught drink-driving when more than five times over the limit.
