A LOCHGELLY man with no driving licence sped through his local area pursued by police.

Greig Dackers, who had spent the day smoking cannabis, ignored the blue flashing lights and sirens, driving dangerously until he lost control of his car and crashed.

Unemployed Dackers, who lives with his parents, then said he was “sorry”, was feeling dizzy after the collision and had to be taken to hospital.

Dackers, 25, of North Street, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on 11th October 2020 at Paul Street and Erskine Street, Lochgelly, he drove a car dangerously by driving at excessive speeds above the limits, failed to stop having been directed to do so by a pursuing marked police car displaying blue flashing lights and sounding klaxons, failed to maintain control of his car and collided with another vehicle, causing damage to it.

He also drove when unfit to do so through drink or drugs.

Depute fiscal Catherine Stevenson said that at around 4pm police on mobile patrol saw Dackers driving in an erratic manner and over the speed limit.

They activated their lights and sirens but he sped off. Dackers continued to ignore police signals for him to stop, increased his speed as he headed along Paul Street then lost control and struck another vehicle.

Dackers got out of his car and told police: “I’m sorry, I’ve got no licence. I’ve smoked lots today.”

Checks showed that he only held a provisional licence.

Defence solicitor Aime Allan said, “He panicked. He knew he had been smoking cannabis and made the stupid decision to take off.

"In his own words he says it was ‘daft’. He’s embarrassed to be before the court.

“He was feeling unwell and dizzy after the accident and was taken to hospital.”

Sheriff Francis Gill banned Dackers from driving for 32 months and until he passes the extended test.

He also imposed a community payback order with 215 hours of unpaid work and a 10-week restriction of liberty order.
