A NEW musical library is to launch in Lochgelly this Spring thanks to the public's generosity.

It has been four weeks since OnFife banged the drum about looking for donations of instruments to help launch the library.

The appeal obviously hit the right note because the response has been hailed as "fantastic", but more are still needed to give as many people the chance to pick up and try an instrument.

Karen Taylor, Creative Instigator with On Fife said: “We’ve been blown away by the public’s response and it’s great to see how many quality instruments have already been donated, from guitars to trumpets to drums - we’ve even had a kalimba thumb piano. However, we still need more instruments to make sure we have enough to go around.’’

The Musical Instrument Library will operate out of Lochgelly Centre and will be available to anyone who is a member of OnFife Libraries.

Any donated instruments will be cleaned and repaired if needed, before being put to great use.

The new service will mean anyone who wants to try their hand at an instrument can do so without the expense of buying.

The project is being worked on alongside St Andrews Music Participation, Tinderbox and the Music Education Partnership Group, who are offering their passion and expertise to make sure the new service strikes the right chord.

A date is still to be confirmed for the launch but once it is up and running, OnFife will also be looking to offer tuition videos, taster sessions and workshops to make music as accessible as possible to everyone.

“Making a donation is easy – just take it along to your local library,” Karen added.

“And please don’t forget to leave your details so we can thank you for your contribution.”
