A POPULAR Cowdenbeath show has been cancelled.

Cowdenbeath Horticultural Society has announced that this year's flower show will not take place.

In a statement on social media last night (Tuesday), the society said: "Just to let everyone know following our recent AGM it was agreed that we will no longer have a flower show.

"This was an extremely difficult decision to make but due to the loss of several committed members and the loss of several exhibitors we felt we could not run a show to the same high standards as pre-Covid.

"We did consider having a smaller condensed show but felt it would not be the same and might not have enough people to build and run it.

"We hope to continue with the charity knit and do something with the local schools on the same Saturday, more info will follow after our next meeting."

The society said that it has not ruled out hosting another flower show, but more people are needed to step forward and help.

"We will not say there will never be a Cowdenbeath flower show but we will require several able bodied new members to come on board," the statement, from Colin Bird, said.

"We hope to continue as a society and do other event, if you have any ideas please come to our next meeting on Wednesday, March 9 at 7pm in Trinity Church, Sinclair Drive. Or contact us through Facebook."

Commenting on the news, a spokesperson for the Cowdenbeath Community Council, said: "This is sad to hear It has to be said that those who were involved in putting on the horticultural flower show did fantastic work.

"It was a wonderful event and always well attended. We wish the horticultural committee well for the future."
