AFTER two weeks without a game, Cowdenbeath face a highly important home match this Saturday.

The visitors to Central Park are Elgin City and Cowden will be going all out to repeat their 3-1 August win over the Moray outfit - and to exact revenge after November’s 1-0 away defeat.

Missing out on the Stirling Albion game, due to a flooded Forthbank pitch, then Forfar’s Covid problems at the weekend, the Blues have been unable to build on their win over Albion Rovers in the last match they played.

But a victory over Elgin would close the gap between the teams, and it is a game Cowden boss Maurice Ross is desperate to win.

City are nine points ahead of Cowden, with three games more played, so a win for Cowden on Saturday will have the visitors looking over their shoulders.

“To have the two games postponed was really frustrating but it is something completely out of our hands but it has allowed us to everyone fit and be ready for the Elgin match,” said Ross.

“Getting a run of wins will be a fundamental part of our bid to avoid the play-offs and the lads are very much looking forward to this important match.”

Elgin have taken the scalps of table-toppers Kelty Hearts, as well as Forfar Athletic, this season, but those home triumphs have not been replicated on the road as, on their travels, they have recorded just two wins.

Ross is hoping to inflict more pain on Elgin when they arrive at Central Park this weekend.

“We have seven home games left and we want to win a significant number of them starting with Elgin,” added Ross.

“City have some talented players but it is all about ourselves and we know that if we can play at our best we can win this game and improve our position.

“Our work as a team has been improving each week with us being competing in every game since and if we can produce our best form this weekend we can get a very important win.”

Midfielder Kyle Miller is yet to serve his two match suspension for his red card against Albion Rovers and his absence against Elgin opens the door for fit again Andrew Barrowman, who was injured only 15 minutes into his debut against Annan Athletic, to make a return to action.
