Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts 1 Hill of Beath Hawthorn 2

HILL of Beath picked up an excellent win while Crossgates Primrose suffered defeat in a weekend of mixed fortunes.

The weather took a swipe at the East of Scotland League programme on Saturday, but two local matches beat the rain.

It was a vital win over Hillfield Swifts for the Haws in their quest to get away from the relegation zone in the East of Scotland Premier League.

The Keirs Parkers have been leaking too many goals this season, with a lot of defenders out of action through injuries, but they were really sound against Swifts.

The home side did take the lead on 22 minutes, however.

A through pass posed a challenge for the Haws and in a race for it the ball was touched past the outrushing ‘keeper, and the Swifts front man touched it into the net.

Early in the second period Hill of Beath came right back into it, when in 48 minutes, fit again striker Daniel Watt was in the right place to squeeze the ball into the net after Lyle Kellichan’s free-kick was met by Lewis Elder and his header was blocked by the ‘keeper.

This saw Haws start to have more of the game and Swifts had to defend well to keep them out. However, with 14 minutes left Adamson got space, through a fine Watt pass, to create the opening and fired home the winner with a lovely shot.

Swifts battled back and Hill of Beath had to defend well to record their fifth win of the campaign, putting them on 18 points from 20 games and only two behind Newtongrange Star, in 14th spot in the table.

Crossgates Primrose 1 Sauchie Athletic 3

It was a disappointing start to 2022 for Primrose, however, who would have been expecting to beat Sauchie at Humbug Park.

The visitors got a boost in four minutes when they were awarded a penalty after an error by the Primrose ‘keeper saw him foul a Sauchie striker and the penalty was converted.

Crossgates came back into the game and created chances but could not breakthrough, and Sauchie made it 2-0 in the 29th minute when the home defence was caught out.

Two down at the interval, Crossgates had to make a positive start to the second period and there were a couple of good chances for the hosts but they couldn't net.

Then 16 minutes from time a neat piece of finishing by Sauchie saw the lead increased to three goals.

However, Primrose were not for giving up and within a minute Mark McKenzie showed nice skills to pull one back.
