MUSICAL recruits are being sought to bolster numbers at the Kelty and Blairadam Concert band.

The group, which meets every Tuesday, is inviting new members of all standards to come and join them.

Band leader Stewart Malcolm said a warm welcome will be given to all new recruits.

"On a good day at the moment, we are about 18-strong and the age range is from 16 up to 76," he said.

"We formed around ten years ago from scratch. We have a lot of ex-military players within the band from the Royal Marines, RAF and the army.

We just play normal popular music, band music, basically easy listening music.

"We rehearse every Tuesday evening at 7pm at the club. People can just come along, bring their instrument and have a blow."

The band has a busy month coming up with appearances at the Kelty Miners Memorial service and carol service as well as their traditional New Year's Day concert in the Kelty and Blairadam Ex-Servicemen's Club.

"We try and make it an open concert on January 1 so anyone from local bands can come and participate as long as they can come to rehearsals on December 21 and 28," added Stewart.

"The first thing is fun. Everybody has got to enjoy it. We are a social band with good banter and nothing is taken too seriously."

Anyone wanting to take part, can come along to the weekly rehearsal at the ex-servicemen's club from 7pm.
