THIS afternoon's Alex Jack Cup final between Crossgates Primose and Leith Athletic has been postponed.

In the last few minutes, both clubs have confirmed that the showpiece match at Kelty Hearts' New Central Park has been called off due to the weather.

The game was set to be Primrose's first cup final appearance since 1995, when they played Newburgh in the Kingdom Cup, but a new date will now be required.

After defeating Kirkcaldy and Dysart and Kinnoull in the opening two rounds, a 5-3 win over Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts sent Crossgates into the last four against Bo’ness Athletic last month where they prevailed on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

Primrose currently sit seventh in the East of Scotland League, Premier Division, whilst their opponents are second in the East of Scotland League First Division, Conference A.

As well as playing for silverware, victory in the competition offers the winning side a possible route into the senior Scottish Cup, alongside those who are successful in the South of Scotland Alba Cup and Strathclyde Demolition Cup competitions, via a play-off.

A new date for the match will be announced in due course.
