TWO people have been appointed to job-share the role of museum manager at Dunfermline’s Carnegie Birthplace Museum.

In an innovative move, the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust have placed Jennifer Jones and Mark Macleod in charge.

Jennifer was born in Dunfermline and returned a few years ago after working in St Andrews, Edinburgh and Stratford-upon-Avon.

Her expertise is in collections, and she says she would love to get the 5,000-plus objects inside the museum seen by the public in person or online.

Mark arrived in Dunfermline from Worcester and created eight free digital tours for the town in partnership with tourism and heritage businesses.

He is passionate about customer experiences and will be looking to build on the events and education sessions that the museum team established before the pandemic hit.

The Carnegie Birthplace Memorial Museum on Moodie Street was opened in 1928 attached to the humble cottage where the world-famous philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie, had been born in 1835.

Gillian Taylor, CEO of Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, said: “We were thrilled to offer this exciting manager post to Mark and Jennifer on a job-share basis.

“They bring a wealth of skills and experience from birthplace museums, national collections, university and medical-specific audiences.

“Together, they offer complementary skills, and we are excited to see what will be achieved by the museum team going forward.”

The Carnegie Birthplace Museum is open daily from 11am to 4pm until December 5 when it will close for a winter break but it remains available for school or group visits during this time.
