NINE good causes in Lochgelly and Cardenden are set to get a Christmas boost through a man completing 1,000 miles in 2021.

Lochgelly’s, Don Campbell, the former Powderhall sprinter, coach and current Highland Games handicapper, has been keeping up his bid to run 20-plus miles a week on his runs from his home in the town, to Wallsgreen Park in Cardenden, where Bowhill Highland Games is held and he completed his challenge at the end of last week.

The total he has raised, through the support of local people, is £5,000 and the local charities to benefit are, St.Patrick’s, St Serf’s, and St. Finnian’s Churches; Lochgelly Salvation Army; the Lochgelly Lunches Project; Auchterderran and St Ninian’s Churches in Cardenden; the Auchterderran Drop-in Group; Tots to Teens, who see kids’ clothing recycled; and the Bowhill Fridge, which ensures people do not go short of food.

Don, 68, started his charity effort on New Year’s Day and has been running each week to Wallsgreen, hoping to raise several thousand pounds for good causes.

He said: “The response from the public has been unbelievable, very humbling and the encouragement and good wishes are what has kept me going each week.

“The £5,000 raised hopefully this will help to make a happier Christmas for many."
