FOR the first time this season the weather wiped out the local East of Scotland card at the weekend.

Due to Scottish Cup replays it was a truncated ‘local’ card, with only Crossgates Primrose at home to Whitehill Welfare in the Premier League, and in Conference B Lochore Welfare, due to entertain Easthouses Lily, and Lochgelly Albert away to Peebles Rovers.

The Berts game was first to go on Thursday afternoon, after incessant rain in the Borders and then the Crossgates and Welfare matches became victims of the rain on Friday afternoon.

It was a major disappointment for Crossgates who, have been having a great season so far and after 15 games they sit on 24 points and in a very comfortable eighth spot in the Premier League table.

A win on Saturday could have seen them go into the top three so there is plenty to play for in the coming weeks for the Humbug Park men.

The same goes for Lochore, had they had the chance to take on Easthouses Lily, at Crosshill, it could have provided the opportunity for them to go top.

Their win last week over leaders Glenrothes reduced the gap to two points and James Adam’s team is certainly in with a chance to win the title.

Said James: “The win over Glenrothes was very important and while it wasn’t our best performance we kept at and got the late winner we wanted.

“It is good to be in the top five and the opportunity is there to stay in the battle for the top spot.”

Lochgelly Albert are trying to get their season back on the winning track after a poor run and they are hopeful of signing some new players to help them get away from the bottom four of Conference B.

Neither Dundonald Bluebell or Hill of Beath Hawthorn were due to be in action, as their scheduled opponents were on Scottish Cup replay duty.

But when play resumes this coming Saturday both teams have important home games coming up.

The ‘Bell, who are sitting in the middle of the Premier table, have a chance to re-ignite their season when Dunbar United come to Moorside.

A home win would take Bluebell on to 22 points and give them the chance to get back into the top eight of the table.

The Haws entertain Musselburgh Athletic, one of the Premier front runners, so it is a hard game for the second bottom Keirs Park side, but one they can take points from.

Sitting on 11 points the Haws need to put together a wee run of positive results to get out of the relegation zone and new boss Jason Dair is confident his side can achieve this as the club’s injury list diminishes.

Crossgates are at Premier bottom side, Newtongrange Star, this Saturday and a win for the Humbug side could cement their place in the top eight.

Primrose are also in the final of the Alex Jack Cup so they have an exciting time ahead.
