A COWDENBEATH woman was subjected to “deplorable” domestic abuse after starting a relationship with a former soldier.

Alan Brown, 35, of Ballindean Place, Dundee, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that between May 1 and December 10 last year in Cowdenbeath, he engaged in an abusive course of conduct towards his ex-partner.

He repeatedly called her, shouted, swore, demanded to know why she was not at home, made derogatory comments about her appearance, accused her of being unfaithful, ridiculed her sexual performance, made derogatory comments about her genitalia, threw a bottle at her, attempted to distance her from her friends and shouted in an aggressive manner when close to her face.

Defence solicitor Amy Fox said her client suffered from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) having served in Afghanistan with the Black Watch.

She said he had also worked as a prison officer and was now a hospital porter.

She added: “He’s ashamed of his actions.”

It had been a seven-month relationship which took place during lockdown, said Ms Fox.

Sheriff Francis Gill told Brown he had subjected the woman to a “deplorable” course of conduct.

He imposed a community payback order with 200 hours of unpaid work and 18 months of supervision.

He also imposed a three-year non-harassment order.
