A YOUTH homelessness charity has partnered up with Fife Council to build better futures for young people.

Rock Trust is working to expand its Housing First for Youth and Housing Support services to help local young people affected by or at risk of homelessness in Fife.

Despite the challenges of the past year, the Rock Trust was able to increase its service provision in Scotland and launch two new housing services in Fife with the support of Fife Council, whom they designed and now deliver these services with.

The services have been in operation for several months but its official launch just recently took place.

Rock Trust hosted an invite-only webinar which was attended by more than 100 people within the local authority, youth homelessness and social services sectors.

The blend of Housing Support and Housing First for Youth allows Rock Trust to provide high intensity, tailored and non-time limited support to meet the specific needs of young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness in Fife.

Kate Polson, CEO of Rock Trust, said: "Rock Trust are pleased to be working with Fife Council, who were keen to offer something effective and innovative for young people with a history of instability and difficult relationships.

"Working together we designed and now deliver a dual Housing First for Youth service ensuring that young people have access to housing and the support to maintain it.

"Alongside local partners we have been able to offer young people a safe and secure place to live and a support package to meet their needs as they transition to adulthood.”

Cllr Judy Hamilton, convenor of Fife Council’s Community and Housing Services welcomed the announcement, and stated: “After a decision of the Community & Housing Services Committee, I am delighted that we have commissioned Rock Trust to deliver this new and innovative project. The Housing First Youth Service has had positive outcomes for young people across Scotland and this project will provide invaluable assistance to those facing homelessness across Fife.

"The Housing First Youth service will allow young people to develop and build the independent living skills they need to maintain a tenancy.

"Developing a stable living environment is essential for these young people and this support will open up the opportunities to access a warm, safe and permanent home with all the support that they need."
