FORMER Brentford centre back Kane O'Connor made his debut for Cowdenbeath on Friday night – just over an hour after signing for the club.

And the defender played well at Ainslie Park on Friday night as the Blue Brazil fought back from a goal down to earn a well deserved point against Edinburgh City.

Kane, 20, was back on familiar territory as he's from the capital and first joined Hibs at the age of 10 in 2011.

He came up through the youth academy ranks at Easter Road and was capped at youth level by Scotland.

In 2019, a number of English clubs were interested in Kane and it was Brentford who secured his signature on a two year deal.

Brentford, of course, are now making people sit up and take notice following their promotion to the English Premiership and he was a regular in their highly regarded B side, albeit he was out for a spell due to injury last season.

Kane left Brentford recently and Cowden manager Gary Bollan had the youngster in to train with the Blues.

On Friday there was a flurry of activity as a deal was agreed, the paperwork was signed and processed, and international clearance was obtained.

Cowden secretary David Allan said: “With the assistance of Brentford FC, the English FA and the SFA, we got this deal over the line at 6.14pm, just in time for Kane to be included in our team for the City game.

“He showed up very well on his first appearance for the Blue Brazil and we offer him a very warm welcome to Central Park."
